“If you follow your bliss, you put yourself on a kind of track that has been there the whole while, waiting for you, and the life you ought to be living is the one you are living.”
There is something very beautiful about that word.
Being on your track brings flow.
There is something very peaceful about that word too.
Reading Joseph Campbell’s quote brings to mind the image of an indoor race cyclist (like at the Olympics) on a track whizzing around at top speed in a tight fitting suit and aero dynamic helmet. It is exciting and exhilarating.
Finding your soul’s purpose can be viewed as an investigative journey or a scavenger hunt. You are the Sherlock Holmes of your life. If you’re a spiritual seeker, then you’re already on this path.
It’s important to be self-aware. It’s about asking questions that bring you home to the place you were meant to be the whole time. Some people know at a young age what their soul’s purpose is, but for others, it takes time and experimentation and experience to get there. Sometimes it even takes a kick up the bum to make you wake up and respond.
The good news is thought that your soul is always calling you. It doesn’t call on the telephone and it rarely ever shouts. Your soul calls in gentle whispers, in subtle feelings, in niggles and in yearnings. Your soul calls in enthusiasm, in jealously, in what pisses you off and in what makes you shit scared. Your soul wants you to listen and to understand why you are here and to do the service you are here to do.
It sounds so simple, right?
And that’s because it is. The trick is to do it with no attachment to the outcome, and without trying to work out where it will lead you or to guess the future. You simply follow what lights you up and then lose yourself in the doing of it. Your mind will make you believe it must be much much harder than that. It will demand an instruction manual, an end destination and a step by step guide like an Ikea flat pack furniture.
But soul callings don’t work like that.
When you follow what lights you up, what brings a sparkle to your eyes and a warmth to your heart and lose yourself in the doing of it, two things happen:
1. You turn on your inner light and your soul and spirit are activated.
2. You light up the world in a way that only you can as what lights you up will be completely different to what lights anyone else up.
When you follow what lights you up you are in your spirit. When you are in your spirit, you are in flow with the universe. When you are in flow with the universe, your life is in alignment. When your life is in alignment, you are living the life that you were born to live.
AND even better, the life that ONLY you can live.
Isn’t that just beautiful?
When you follow what lights you up, you bring that light to the world with your presence. When you light up the world with your presence you automatically inspire others to connect with their own inner light. In other words peeps, your light is contagious.
Now I know that some of you will be thinking that you have no idea what your soul purpose is and perhaps that feels uncomfortable so here are a few journaling or meditation questions to help you;
- What brought me joy as a child?
- What in my life no longer serves me—emotionally, physically, and spiritually?
- Are there any synchronistic events that could be a clue to my soul’s purpose?
- Have I had any accidents that served as wake-up calls for me?
- Who are my role models and icons?
- What do I often teach others?
- What are my dreams and desires?
- How do I help others transform?
- If I had one year to live, what would I do?
- What am I good at?
- What do my friends and family say I am good at?
- What part of my day is joyful?
Perhaps this has helped you and perhaps it has confused you even more?
